Waves For The Brave 5K

In honor of Memorial Day weekend, the 2019 WAVES FOR THE BRAVE 5K is being held to honor and highlight the San Diego military and veteran community. This event is hosted by Wave Academy, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that provides warm water therapy to active duty military and veterans who have post-traumatic stress.

The 2019 WAVES FOR THE BRAVE 5K will feature:

• Patriotic themed event with flags along the finish line

• Ramona High School JROTC Color Guard at 7:35am

• Moment of Silence at 7:45am

• National Anthem at 7:55am

• The Roy Rockers providing live music

• Veterans running with a giant American flag

The challenging 5K trail loops around Lake Poway, which begins and ends in the shady park next to the lake. Participants will receive unique custom dog-tag finisher medals and quality cotton t-shirts. There will be booths with resources for military, veterans and the community. Special recipients will be eligible to be awarded a custom Challenge Coin. Our sponsors currently include County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar’s office, Live Well San Diego, USC Marshall School of Business, Casa Palmera, Sparkletts Water, Vida Kombucha, the International College of Holistic Studies, Poway Veterans Organization, and Eco Chateau.

The event is open to the public. Click here for more information.

Proceeds support Wave Academy, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that is dedicated to healing veterans, active-duty military, and their caregivers through warm water therapy. The research-backed program provides eight sessions of individualized warm water therapy with a certified practitioner. Wave Academy is the only non-profit in the nation providing this kind of therapy for veterans with PTS. The recipients of Wave Academy’s therapy have reported an average 24 percent decrease in symptoms stemming from their post-traumatic stress.
