Sabrina Carpenter Debuts 'Why' Lyric Video | EXCLUSIVE

Less than a year ago, Sabrina Carpenter dropped her sophomore studio album Evolution in October 2016, but that's not slowing her down from releasing more new music. The 18-year-old has shared her brand new single, "Why," and we have the premiere of the official lyric video.

In Sabrina's "Why" lyric video, the lyrics are illustrated/written/typed out in various fonts and drawings on a typewriter, in a notebook, and on paper.

"Why" illustrates just how opposites attract and can work so well together. Sabrina sings in the chorus, "Tell me how we're not alike/But we work so well/And we don't even know why/Funny how the stars crossed right/Cause we work so well/And we don't even know why/You can call it fire and ice, but we work so well/And we don't even know why."

Sabrina tells iHeartRadio exclusively of her new single that the meaning behind the words is left to each individual's own interpretation. She says:

"'Why' is a question we seem to pose daily, so there are multiple meanings within the song that are up to interpretation. We don’t necessarily need to be the same, to love the same. Sometimes differences can hold us together and I think that’s a beautiful sentiment to how we deal with divergence and how it can furthermore prove our compatibility. In the end, we don’t really need to know 'why' if we are confident in our own emotions."

Before releasing "Why," Sabrina teased the new song by sending postcards to fans, which included handwritten notes and pieces of her single art for her fans to put together like a puzzle (kind of reminiscent of her "Why" lyric video). And on Instagram, she shared stills from romance movies like Say Anything..., Romeo & Juliet, and When Harry Met Sally -- a nod to couples who are opposites.

"Why is the first taste of new solo music from Sabrina following her last single "Thumbs" from Evolution. And it looks like there is definitely more on the way, having recently collaborated with producer Mike Perry and The Vamps on "Hands." She's also been in the studio with UK producer/DJ Jonas Blue. In a recent interview, Jonas told iHeartRadio of Sabrina, "We've actually done two songs now. And I love working with her. I think she's the future."

Sabrina kicks off her first North American headlining tour -- "The Detour" -- today (July 6th) in Canada, and hitting cities in the US like Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Nashville, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, and more.
