Linda Vista Park Dedication

Linda Vista’s Morley Park will be renamed “John P. Baca Park” on Saturday, December 2nd, at 1:00 pm.  John is a Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient from the Vietnam War and attained the rank of US Army Specialist Fourth Class (SP4).  An impressive monument will be dedicated in his honor.

The park is located in the 6900 block of Linda Vista Road, one mile north of the University

of San Diego, and across the street from the Linda Vista Shopping Center.  Parking is available on-street or in the shopping center.  City officials will be present.  Refreshments will be served.

John graduated from Kearny High School in 1967 and was drafted into the Army in 1969.  While serving in Vietnam he saved eight men from death and serious injury by shielding them from

a grenade attack.  He used his own helmet and body to lessen the explosion with total disregard for his own personal safety.

The Medal of Honor had been awarded by President Richard Nixon in 1971.  Mr. Baca still resides in San Diego.  His presence is expected at the park dedication.
