Missy Elliott To Receive Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award At 2019 VMAs

Missy Elliott will receive MTV’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award on August 26 at the 2019 VMAs, per Variety.

For this year's ceremony, which will be hosted by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, Elliott will also hit the stage for her first performance at the show in 16 years. "Missy's impact on the music landscape is indelible. Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched," Bruce Gillmer, MTV International co-brand head and Viacom music and music talent head, said in a statement. Among the previous recipients of the honor include Madonna, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Rihanna and Beyoncé. Jennifer Lopez was the 2018 honoree of the title.

Elliott joins Taylor Swift as the only other announced performer for the ceremony. Meanwhile, Swift and Ariana Grande lead the nomination pack with 10 honors apiece.

Fans can vote for their favorites by visiting VMA.MTV.com until August 15. Meanwhile, the Best New Artist category will remain active until the broadcast airs. For the first time ever, the network is also rewarding fans for voting through VMA Power Hour on their site, where their votes are doubled from 1-2 PM ET every day.
