Racial injustice themes fill empty NFL stadiums
Beginning with sports, you get to catch any of those football games yesterday? Well in case you missed it the NFL is officially back baby and the once reluctant league led the charge in demonstrations against racial injustices with one of the most notable coming from the Seahawks and the Falcons when during kickoff every player on the field took a knee for about 10 seconds before trotting off the field (absolutely beautiful) and another happening right before the Vikings-Green Bay game when Viking’s players locked arms prior to kickoff and the Packers remained in their locker room during the anthem as the family of George Floyd watched from the stands. The Packers were joined by the Jaguars, Bills, Jets, Dolphins and Cardinals who all stayed in their locker rooms for both the national anthem and ‘Lift Every Voice & Sing’ and Colts head coach Frank Reich said and I quote “to be clear, we were not protesting the flag, the anthem or the men and women who wear the uniform”. California governor signs bill giving inmates a shot a firefighting
Alright in case you missed it Governor Newsom passed a bill over the weekend that’ll give inmates helping battle the state’s wildfires a shot at becoming legit firefighters. Under the California bill, Newsom’s allowing prisoners who are on the front lines of the wildfire containment to have their records expunged after serving their sentences and says the goal is to make it easier for them to have a firefighting career after release and that the ‘California inmate firefighter program is decades-old and needs reform and inmates battling historic fires should not be denied the right to later become a professional firefighter. Chula Vista giving away 25K free face masks to residents
Over the weekend the city of Chula Vista announced that they will be distributing thousands of reusable face masks to help combat the virus and Mayor Casillas Salas says ‘it’s vital that Chula Vista residents have access to reusable face masks as it is our hope that these distribution efforts will get the masks into the hands of those who need them most’ and this comes following a record number of outbreaks in the South Bay and the mask distribution will begin today from 11 to 6 at the Library on F and the Otay Library on Birch and will happen every day from now until Friday so go grab one of those if you need to.
