CA OFFICIALS ISSUE STATEWIDE FLEX ALERT FOR THURSDAY

California issued a statewide Flex Alert yesterday and are asking residents to reduce their energy use today from 3 to 10pm due to the expected above average temperatures headed our way this afternoon and just give you a little perspective of what’s going on here, the last time California’s power grid operator called for rolling power outages due to heat was in 2001 so please, please try to do your part to avoid these rolling blackouts by unplugging any unused appliances or electronics, raising your thermostat a tick or two and turning off any unused lights around the house. CHICANO ARTISTS FIGHT TO SAVE LOGAN HEIGHTS MURALS

Several artists gathered in Logan Heights yesterday to ask the San Diego Unified School District for a shot to recreate the historic murals being threatened by the construction of a new campus and Logan community activist Wicho Flores said in a statement that “we are not against the project, we are not against the progress of education in Logan but what we need is transparency to help us preserve the culture and history of the community and school”. Now San Diego Unified issued a statement saying the murals could not be moved because they were painted directly onto an old framed building that contained asbestos and the district says they took photos of the original murals they plan to display on the new campus. The school district is currently in the process of building the new K through 12 center on 28th and Logan and will be named the Logan Memorial Educational Campus. (Full Story Here)

JAY-Z, MEEK, MICHAEL RUBIN LAUNCH REFORM ALLIANCE, PROBATION

Governor Newsom signed a law yesterday aimed at changing the way the probation system works that’s now allowing for a smoother pathway for Californians to exit the justice system and its being reported that Jay & Meek’s brainchild REFORM Alliance actually played a huge role in making this happen. Now under the new law ‘adult probation sentences to a maximum of 1 year for a misdemeanor and 2 years probation for a felony’ and with shorter probationary periods it’s less likely for someone to violate their probation’ and REFORM alliance took to IG celebrating the victory with a post that reads ‘this bill will help put hundreds of thousands of Californians on probation in positions to succeed and exit the criminal justice system for good (Full Story Here)
