The San Diego Air & Space Museum will be closing early on Saturday, July 31, for a tribute to the Apollo 15 mission to the moon.

The event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the mission and feature three of the crew members reports the Times of San Diego.

Commander Dave Scott, lead flight director Gerald Griffin, and science team member James Head will discuss their space explorations and the Apollo 15 mission's goals.

Apollo 15 launched on July 26, 1971, with the goal of exploring the Hadley Apennine region of the Moon.

According to the Times, it was the most scientifically significant site of the entire Apollo program.

After three days of travel and one day in lunar orbit, Scott and pilot Jim Irwin landed at the base of the Apennine mountains to live and work on the Moon for three days.

The San Diego Air & Space Museum said NASA called the mission "the most complex and carefully planned scientific expedition in the history of exploration."

The museum will close by 4:00 P.M. with final admission at 3:30 P.M. in preparation for the Apollo 15, 50th Anniversary Event at 5:00 P.M.
