A California man survived a 75-foot fall from the top of a mountain tramway system, according to the New York Post.

The man, who is unidentified, reportedly fell from the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which takes visitors 2.5 miles across the Sonoran Desert to the top of Mt. San Jacinto summit 8,5000 feet above the desert.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the man climbed over the guardrail and slipped. The vice president of marketing and public affairs at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Greg Purdy, told the paper that a restaurant worker at the top of the summit allegedly witnessed the man fall and phoned emergency services.

The man reportedly landed on an icy area and the icy conditions prevented a Riverside County Sheriff's Department helicopter from assisting in the recovery effort. Instead, firefighters lowered a stretcher to rescue him.

When he was finally rescued, he denied medical attention as he only had minor injuries, according to Riverside County Fire spokesperson April Newman. The department released an initial statement saying the man fell from 300-feet, but then shared an update clarifying that the fall was from 75-feet.

“Our first priority is not the how it happened, but how a patient is doing during our rescue,” Newman added. Officials said the man and a guest he was with left via the tramway.
