The United States Postal Service will no longer be delivering to one California neighborhood due to repeated attacks on mail carriers since the start of this year. According to a report from Fox News, the first incident happened on January 19 when a resident in Santa Monica allegedly swung a broomstick at a mail carrier in the early evening.
Now, residents living at addresses located in the 1300 block of 14th Street received notices from the USPS informing them that delivery services have been suspended. The notice read explained that "multiple carriers have been subjected to assaults and threats of assault from an individual who has not been located or apprehended."
While USPS has still been delivering packages in the neighborhood, paper mail delivery has halted and residents have been told to pick up their mail in person at their post office on 7th street.
According to CBS News, only one assault has been officially reported and the victim in that January incident has declined to have the case prosecuted. But USPS spokeswoman Natashi Garvins told Fox News Digital that there have been three separate incidents in the 1300 block of 14th street in Santa Monica over the last several months. As a result, service has been temporarily suspended to residents in the area.
