A 20-year-old student at the University of Arizona was fatally shot at an off-campus party in Tucson early Sunday morning (April 28). Erin Jones, originally from Newport Beach, California, was found with life-threatening injuries and later died at a local hospital, KTLA reports.

The Tucson Police Department responded to a call about a possible shooting around 1:40 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jones outside a house. She was waiting for an Uber to leave the party when the shooting occurred, according to friends.

Three people were also injured in the incident. A woman was found nearby with gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other victims, a young girl and a man, arrived at the hospital in their vehicles and were treated for minor injuries.

Jones was a graduate of Corona Del Mar High School in Newport Beach, where she was a member of the girls' soccer team. Her former principal, Jake Haley, and soccer coach, Bryan Middleton, expressed their condolences and remembered Jones as a well-known student and a passionate, inclusive teammate.

"I am at a loss for words about the tragic loss of life of our class of 2022 graduate, Erin Jones. Erin was a well-known student on the Corona Del Mar campus and the ripple effect of the loss will be felt by many, especially our soccer community, where Erin was an active member," Haley wrote, per CBS News.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Investigators believe there was a large gathering at the residence before the shooting took place, and several witnesses left the area prior to police arriving.
