The attorneys representing Sean "Diddy" Combs may have found a way to dodge the wave of civil lawsuits from numerous alleged victims.
Attorney Tony Buzbee, the controversial lawyer who filed dozens of lawsuits against Combs since last year, was reportedly barred from practicing in the Southern District of New York. Buzbee fired back by posting proof from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York that he could practice law in New York state. However, he also had to seek permission to continue litigating his ongoing cases in the SDNY. According to The Breakfast Club's Loren Lorosa, both the SDNY and Combs' attorneys opposed his request.
Combs' legal team filed a "memorandum of law" last night, in which they denounced Buzbee's application for admission. If approved, Buzbee would've been able to pursue his cases while operating under pro hac vice, meaning he could've used a local attorney who is licensed to practice in that specific jurisdiction. However, SDNY denied his request and Combs' attorneys opposed Buzbee's move.
According to Lorosa, Combs' team didn't make the decision lightly. They never try to stop an attorney from litigating their case. However, they believe there was too much misconduct and too many rules that Buzbee allegedly broke over the past six months. If he's ultimately barred from practicing in the Southern District of New York, then his current cases might be in jeopardy. As of this report, Buzbee has not responded to the SDNY's decision.
This is just the latest setback for Buzbee. Before his issues with the SDNY, the Texas-based attorney's client Jane Doe voluntarily dropped her controversial sexual assault case against JAY-Z and Combs. Hov responded by declaring victory and continuing to pursue his defamation lawsuit against Buzbee. The Roc Nation founder and Buzbee may end up facing off in court after Judge Mark H. Epstein reportedly ruled that Hov's case against Buzbee has enough merit to go to trial. Meanwhile, Buzbee also sued Roc Nation, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, and attorney Marcy Croft for allegedly convincing his former clients to sue him.
