San Diego Sends Rescue Teams To Help Texas Flood Victims

The death toll from flooding in Texas continues to climb.

Local members of the Urban Search and Rescue Team, Task Force 8 have left San Diego for Texas, to help with flood relief efforts.

The teams will join others traversing riverbanks and debris fields with ATV's and swift water rescue techniques.

K-9's are also being used in areas with limited visibility to help search for survivors.

“California stands with all those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in the devastating aftermath of these summer floods in Texas," Governor Newsom said in a statement. "California is sending these specialized resources to support critical emergency response and recovery efforts."

Governor Newsom's office said the teams are experienced in disaster rescue operations, including the September 11, 2001, attacks, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Ian, the Camp Fire in Paradise, the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Montecito Mudslides.
