Beloved Snack Recalled In California Poses 'Life-Threatening' Health Risk

Mondelēz Global LLC voluntarily recalled "four carton sizes of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches (8-pack, 20-pack, and 40pack cartons of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches, as well as the 20-packRITZ Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack carton)" on Tuesday (July 8) due to a labeling issue and the undeclared presence of a common allergen.

According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, the recalled product, distributed to retail stores nationwide (including those in California), contains "peanuts" which poses the risk of a "serious or life-threatening allergic reaction" to individuals allergic to the ingredient not listed on the product labels.

Consumers should avoid RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches with UPC Codes 0 44000 88210 5, 0 44000 07584 2, 0 44000 07819 5, and 0 44000 08095 2. The recall occurred after it was discovered that individually wrapped packs of peanut butter crackers were mislabeled as cheese crackers.

So far, there have been no complaints of allergic reactions as a result of consuming the mislabeled RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches. Officials are urging consumers who have already purchased the recalled products to discard them if they are allergic to peanut butter.
