Border Patrol Horses Ride Again In San Diego

Border Patrol agents on horseback are returning for the first time in over two years to parts of San Diego County.

The Unit's lead instructor says the return of horses will help agents patrol rugged terrain in San Diego's East County, or along the southern border, more effectively.

With a 96-percent drop in border apprehensions compared to last year, the unit now has the resources to bring the horses back.

Along with new immigration restrictions in place from the Trump Administration, hotter weather has also slowed crossings in recent weeks. The Border Patrol expects the downward trend in migrant encounters to continue.
