A New "Charge" About To Show Up On Your SDG&E Bill

A new monthly charge is about to show up on your SDG&E bill, but it doesn't necessarily mean you will pay more.

Starting in October, the utility company will roll out a $24-dollar "Base Services Charge." However, SDG&E insists it won't be an extra fee for residential customers, instead it is just a reshuffling of costs you're already paying.

Some consumer advocates aren't buying it. They call it a "utility tax," and say it could hurt low income households.

Last year the State Public Utilities Commission approved a restructured billing system designed to increase transparency as the state transitions to one hundred percent clean energy.

Customers will see a reminder on their August bill.
