Ground Stop Lifted At San Diego International Airport

The runway at San Diego International Airport has reopened after an hours long ground stop Wednesday night.

The ground stop was issued at 7:18 p.m. after an airplane experienced a nose gear failure according to the FAA. The shut down prevented inbound flights from entering San Diego and outbound flights from leaving. All inbound flights were diverted to other airports, including LAX.

Although the runway is reopened, those flying are urged to check their flight status before returning to the airport due to numerous cancellations Thursday morning.

The FAA had at one point advised the closure would extend through midnight, but the airport was back open to air traffic by 10 p.m.
