A surprise announcement for Students and parents at Behtune's K-8th auditorium Wednesday night.
The Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District, Dr. Fabiola Bagula, announced that 6th through 8th grade classes will remain at the Bay Terraces neighborhood school.
“This type of corazon that you have here, this is what every single school should have," Dr. Bagula said, addressing the audience. "It does take a whole community showing up. I love that you’re here even when your kids aren’t going to be impacted, or they’re graduated. This tells me a lot about you. So please know, we’re not touching Bethune. It’s going to stay there."
Bethune was one of four schools the district was looking to transition those grades classes to middle school.
The other schools, Audubon, Fulton and Golden Hill will transition to K through Five schools starting in the next school year.
