The San Diego County Scripps Regional Spelling Bee is Thursday.
The event is expecting 80 spellers from grades six-though-eight in the county. Top spellers will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee and a chance at winning over 52-thousand dollars in cash and prizes and a trophy.
This year, the announcer is Patricia Elmore Costa, founder of the San Diego Actors Theater.
She says she will bring Shakespeare to the Bee during her official word pronouncer duties. The Spelling Bee will be held at the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA.
