The New England Patriots have informed wide receiver Stefon Diggs that they plan to release him after the start of the new league year next Wednesday (March 11), sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

"The Patriots informed four-time Pro Bowl WR Stefon Diggs they’re releasing him after the start of the league year next week, per sources," Pelissero wrote on his X account Wednesday (March 4).

Diggs shared a post on his Instagram Story confirming the report.

"THANK YOU for a hell of a year. We family forever @patriots," he wrote.

Diggs, 32, a four-time Pro Bowler, first-team All-Pro (2020) and second-team All Pro (2022) just concluded his first season with the Patriots, having signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal this past offseason, following stints with the Minnesota Vikings (2015-2019), Buffalo Bills (2020-2023) and Houston Texans (2024). The former University of Maryland standout recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in 2025.

Diggs recently pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation and other criminal charges during an arraignment at Massachusetts' Dedham District Court last month. The former Pro Bowler is accused of assaulting a woman who was working as a private chef on December 2, according to police report obtained by WCVB.

The filed a report on December 16 claiming Diggs entered her unlocked bedroom and allegedly smacked her across the face after discussing money owed to her. The woman said she attempted to push Diggs away, at which point he allegedly choked her with his elbow around her neck and later threw her on the bed.

The woman initially opted not to file charges on December 16 before deciding otherwise on December 22, authorities confirmed. Diggs was reported to have faced charges in late December, however, the arraignment was delayed to take place after Super Bowl LX even prior to the Patriots winning the AFC Championship Game. Diggs' attorney, Michael DiStefano, made a remote appearance in Dedham District Court on Tuesday (December 30) and sought to have the police report connected with the incident impounded, claiming the details should've remained sealed and confirmed that his client had already made a financial offer to resolve the issue with the alleged victim.

“As we speak, they’re working to come to an agreement on that,” DiStefano said via Boston 25 News.

The judge confirmed that she'd take the request under advisement and would make a ruling "shortly." Diggs is scheduled to appear for an arraignment on January 23, two days prior to the AFC Championship Game, though the judge agreed to consider a request to extend his arraignment date to March.
