Since 1974, the San Diego County Office of Education has recognized teachers from across the region for their commitment to teaching and learning. Every year, teachers representing all 42 county districts are invited to apply for the San Diego County Teacher of the Year Awards.
The SDCOE has partnered with Cox Communications again this year to recognize all San Diego County Teachers at the 30th annual “Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers”, brought to you by our title sponsor San Diego County Credit Union.
The event, normally held at the Balboa Theater, highlights San Diego County’s more than 26,000 public school teachers and features celebrity emcees and presenters, and musical and dance performances. Due to concerns with COVID-19, this year we will bring you a special video presentation recognizing the five new San Diego County Teachers of the Year and celebrating those who have dedicated themselves to education.
The 2020-21 San Diego County Teachers of the Year are:
- Arah Allard, Del Mar Hills Elementary School, Del Mar Union School District
- Christine Hill, Ramona High School, Ramona Unified School District
- Jose Melo, Valley Center Middle School, Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District
- Paula Richardson, Wilson Middle School, San Diego Unified School District
- Jay Tweet, El Capitan High School, Grossmont Union High School District
