An extra hot Labor Day weekend awaits San Diego as a strong, high pressure system builds over California bringing scorching temperatures and a 10-15% drop in humidity. The western valleys could see 112 degrees while deserts are expected to reach 119 on Sunday and 121 on Monday, plus winds out of the east could reach 20-30 mph, making ideal conditions for wildfires.
An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is in effect over the Labor Day weekend in San Diego County:
10am Friday through 8pm Monday in the county's western valleys, mountains and deserts.
10am Saturday through 8pm Monday in the county's coastal areas.
Residents are reminded to drink lots of fluids and stay out of the sun. NEVER leave children, seniors, and pets in an unattended vehicle.
The County of San Diego has updated their Cool Zone locations and hours of operation to give the public a break from the excessive heat. Due to COVID-19, safety measures will be in place to protect the health of Cool Zone visitors and staff. Anyone entering a Cool Zone will have their temperature taken. All visitors and staff must also wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Time limits may be in place due to limited capacity.
Facilities will be open from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (9/5-7).
