A man died on a Hillcrest street after he was accidentally run over by his own vehicle, reports KGTV.

San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officials said the tragic accident happened on Tuesday evening (November 23) at around 5:50 P.M. in the 4000 block of Albatross Drive, near W. Lewis Street.

The victim was a 68-year-old driver who stopped at a stop sign. For unknown reasons, he got out of his truck but left the vehicle in reverse.

The driver then “got caught in the open driver’s side door as he stood next to the truck and was knocked to the ground,” said police.

After being knocked down, the man was run over by the truck's left tire.

According to KGTV, the man was unidentified and was taken to the hospital but died after arrival.

The SDPD's Traffic Divison is investigating the incident.
