Military officials say technology is making it nearly impossible to keep warship locations secret.
They say the departure of the San Diego-based USS Boxer was captured by live harbor-life cameras operated by San Diego WebCam. The departure was also captured by countless people on land using cameras, iPhones and video equipment the posted to social media.
Less than a week later, photos of the vessel were posted of the Boxer west of Hawaii, another as it pulled into Pearl Harbor.
The Navy says they are now using strict operational security measures, restricting personal electronics and utilizing advanced technological countermeasures to manage their digital footprint.
