Refugio Manuel Jimenez Jr. and Angela Renee Jimenez have been charged with involuntary manslaughter, along with other stemming counts from the El Dorado Fire.

The incident occurred in Yucaipa on September 5, 2020 when the couple used a smoke bomb for their gender reveal. The smoke bomb exploded in the hot, dry conditions that would burn more than 22,000 acres.

Unfortunately, firefighter Charle Morton died on September 17, battling the wildfire.

A couple has been criminally charged after their gender-reveal event allegedly sparked a Southern California wildfire that led to the death of a firefighter, the district attorney announced Tuesday.

Refugio Manuel Jimenez Jr. and Angela Renee Jimenez were indicted on involuntary manslaughter and other counts stemming from the El Dorado Fire, which erupted in Yucaipa on Sept. 5.

Both Refugio and Angela have pleaded not guilty and were released on their own recognizance.

The couple could face up to 20 years in prison.
