The state has just pulled its funding from shark research and researchers feel as thought this is a mistake because not only have the researchers been able to tag over 300 juvenile sharks but the program also has 120 acoustic receivers along the coastline to listen to tagged sharks as well as drone equipment. This enables them to provide lifeguards with updates if there are sharks too close. Now the research has been finding that sharks are always near people but without the program lifeguards won’t be able to properly manage the beaches. The funding runs out in June and they don’t raise local funding it will be forced to shut down.
Manny Machado of the Padres is teaming up to help the San Diego Unified School District to raise awareness about the importance of regular school attendance. Manny Machado will be the spokesman for the campaign and the Padres will provide tickets to students, staff and families at the school that increases attendance the most this spring. The PSA will be shared this month and the results will be announced in May.
The second measles case was confirmed in San Diego County this year, this time it was a 47-year-old resident who recently traveled overseas. This one is unrelated to the previous one in February involving an infant who also travels abroad but the infected adult may have exposed others at various locations in Encinitas and Carlsbad.
